Highway 5 closed after collision between car, semi: RCMP

Highway 5 east of Saskatoon was closed Thursday afternoon after a serious crash between a car and a semi truck.

Saskatoon RCMP said in a release the collision occurred approximately 10 miles east of the city, and the highway was expected to be closed for several hours as they investigated.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and confirmed to 650 CKOM one person was airlifted to Royal University Hospital.

Aberdeen firefighters also attended the crash.

A 650 CKOM listener told the newsroom they witnessed a car “smashed up” on the road, while a large truck was in the ditch near Ike Thiessen Grid Road.
