Beeland Co-op Food Store has grand opening

Jan 17, 2019 | 2:00 PM

After nearly a year and a half of construction and getting the aisles ready, the Beeland Co-op Food Store held its grand opening in Tisdale.

The new grocery store had its soft opening on Nov. 8, and in the two months since its inception, Beeland Co-op’s General Manager Todd Svenson said the initial reaction from the community has been positive.

“I stood at the front door and watched people come in and their reaction was ‘wow,’” Svenson told northeastNOW. “It’s almost bringing the city [life] to Tisdale. This looks like a city store; it’s a beautiful facility and has everything you would find in a large centre store.”

Some of the differences from the previous downtown building includes more parking space and a pharmacy. Svenson mentioned Beeland Co-op got out of the pharmacy business in 2000 but its been picking up business in the first two months.

For the employees involved, Svenson said there is excitement with moving from a building built in 1981 to a new facility but the toughest adjustment will be leaving the memories in the previous location.

“You come from where you’ve worked for years and years and move into a new building, but they did well,” he said. “We pushed them when we were first opening to get everything ready and they responded and got everything up and running. We’ve got a great crew and they’ve adjusted well.

“It’s been an awesome move and I think everybody’s happy.”

The new food store is projected to last Beeland Co-op for 40 years.
