Tisdale to host Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Jan 30, 2019 | 4:00 PM

An annual tradition in the northeast returns this spring.

North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) will host this year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in Tisdale May 28.

“We have a fairly large committee of individuals from Tisdale that are steering the event this year, which excites us, it’s awesome to have them out there planning this and organizing it for us and with us,” NEOSS executive director Louise Schweitzer told northeastNOW.  “We have Schapansky Auctioneers and Winmar that are stepping up as major sponsors for us this year.”

Schweitzer said they will be announcing other sponsors as the event date approaches.

She added that some of the details of the event, including the exact route being taken by the participants, have yet to be ironed out. The event will begin at the Tisdale Town Square. A barbecue will also be on site, yet entertainment has not been determined yet.

Registration forms can be found at Schapansky Auctioneers, Winmar, the R.M. office, the RECPlex, NEOSS, and other locations in the northeast.

Schweitzer said the walk is an important event.

“Men are encouraged to walk a mile in four-inch red high heels in a public statement against domestic, sexualized, and gender violence,” Schweitzer said. “In each of our walks we’ve always encouraged you to come as a family, because we know that domestic violence doesn’t affect just the men or the women in the family, it affects the whole family for generations.”

Last year’s NEOSS Walk a Mile was held in Melfort.
